Why Words Really Matter: A Talk About Intention, Meaning, Respect, and Change
Words matter. We’ve heard it said before. But now, more than ever, words hold sway in everything from family discussions and casual encounters, to the success of political campaigns.
But it is more than just the words at face value and the topics discussed. Words hold POWER. And there is no place that they hold more power than in regard to our beliefs and identities.
In this episode, we dive into this power, discussing everything from the vernacular in wishing someone happy holidays, to pronouns, gender roles, and names.
We discuss, most deeply, the psychological effect our word usage in upbringing into adulthood has had on decisions we make and what we believe. We talk about how these words have affected everything from elections to our own fight for gender equality. Be prepared to question why you believe what you believe and explore whether or not we need to be looking at changing some of our most deep-seated traditions.
